Preferences -- Happiness

The first thumb rule to create a positive living environment is always to be yourself and make a list of what you like to be in your own home. It is better to stick to your own preferences than to follow the latest Interior design trend of that year. Trends come and go but your preferences is eternal. So, if you are a fan of blue ocean color and like traditional style, just go for it though the trend says that are outdated. You’ll notice how happier you’ll be when surrounding yourself with the things you like. Be as detail as possible with your own preferences when you are about to choose materials, patterns and colors. Whether diamond or flower pattern, silver or gold beads, all these small details will make a huge difference on how you'll feel when spending time in your home.

Different colors – Different emotions

Different colors are psychologically proven to have a definitive effect on moods and emotions.

Let's think a while about your favorite color and how that color can make you feel. Your favorite color is a direct reflection of your personality. For someone who is a fan of purple will usually reflect elegance, royalty and mysterious as well in her personality. This person will not feel very comfortable with large amount of yellow that reflects more cheerful, happy and creativity mood. Therefore it is very important that you spend time and incorporate your favorite color into your house design scheme so it will suit you and reflect your personality. Colors affect us everyday in many ways, leaving different moods and thoughts everyday we go. To create peace and harmony, you need to be wise in choosing certain colors (basic, shades and tones colors) in decorating to create different mood and emotion that you want; brighter shades are usually calming and soothing while darker colors can cause you to feel sad and melancholic. Here are some basic color reflection to your own personality:

Red: passion, strength, warmth, energy, stimulation, masculinity, excitement.

Pink: tranquillity, nurture, warmth, femininity, love, sexuality

abundance, fun.

emotional strength, friendliness.

reassurance, environmental awareness, equilibrium, peace.

coolness, reflection, calm.

quality.

Each room with specific design -- Its own spirit

When decorating your house, think about how you would like to feel in each room. You should think of what nuance do you want to appear on each room to carry its purpose. Living room, study room, bedroom, dining room and other rooms should have their own character and bring different spirit as you wish them to appear. For example, let’s start with your living room. This is the place where you'll spend most of your free time with your closest ones, so make sure you promote positive feelings of unity around that perimeter. Generally, you can go for lighter colors to brighten up and give more spacious effect to the room. However, when it comes to your study room, you can use warm colors to show seriousness and optimism.

Form follow Function -- Peace of mind and Order in life

There is no place that I would rather be than to be in a house that is clean, in order, practical and functional. Let me explain, good space design should always supports its function to be organized and good in the eyes. Both function and aesthetic should serve each other as one entity to answer basic human needs in terms of making life easier, happier and comfortable. I believe every single stuff in this world has its own way to put and display, so when you treat it the right way, you'll feel much more peace and order in life, which later on will lead to better quality of life. So take your time to declutter your home and remove all the distractions from the rooms. For example, a working table should be put in your home office and not in your bedroom so you can be focused on getting your work done. The good news is there is no small home that is too small to have this form follow function rule.

Lighting -- Create Ambience

Nowadays lighting has evolved its practice to not just being a medium of illumination but also to become a significant part of home decor. With accurate layering of lighting, you can create a particular ambience and highlight specific features in your interior design. You need to be careful on where putting task, accent (decorative), and ambient (general) lighting at the right place and proportion to get particular ambience. So, when choosing lighting for a room, consider many aspects from its size ratio to the room, decor and furnishings, purpose, and the subject. It is also important to consider the ceilings' height and any specific feature that should be highlighted. Right layering is profoundly important especially in the living room, because it is a vocal meeting point where people usually gather for long period of time and engage in different activities.

Natural Elements -- Natural Enhancement

If you want to be in a good mood, improve productivity and reduce stress at your home, you should integrate natural light and natural elements as much as possible in your home. Natural light would always be the best option to brighten your space, mood and improve productivity during daytime. Working and living inside a brighter space will helps you to concentrate more and feel energizing, so you will be much more productive while working at home. Nothing is more depressing than living in a house with poor natural lighting. So if you are planning to renovate or buy a new house, make sure to prepare enough windows in your space planning for natural light to come in during daytime. Other than natural light, natural elements such as plants, water, and stones around your house will also brighten your mood, refresh your soul and even as source of inspiration. While natural plants can purify and freshen up the air inside your house, water and stone elements will give you warmer and cosy feeling to surrounding by its natural earthly aura.

So in designing your home, you should take all these details into consideration to make a pleasant interior that can evoke positive energy and mood around your home. When you are happy at home, you can make other people happy too!
